A six-member delegation of Portuguese parliamentarians will visit Taiwan from October 8 to October 12, 2016 at the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The purpose of the visit is to gain a better understanding of Taiwan’s democratic and political developments, as well as its social and economic environment, which in turn will help promote bilateral relations and advance parliamentary and civilian exchanges between Taiwan and Portugal.

In addition to attending the ROC National Day celebrations and related activities on October 10, the delegation members will call at the Legislative Yuan, the Mainland Affairs Council, the National Development Council and the European Economic and Trade Office, as well as attend banquets held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association. The delegation members will also visit sites of economic and cultural significance such as the National Palace Museum, Neihu Technology Park, Taipei 101 and the Kavalan Distillery in Yilan County, where they will also explore the beauty of Taiwan’s ecosystems and natural environment in and around Jiaoxi Township.

Led by Emídio Guerreiro, the delegation also comprises five other members of Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic: Pedro Filipe dos Santos Alves, Sara Martins Marques dos Santos Madruga da Costa, João Veloso da Silva Torres, António Alves Cardoso and Francisca Luís Baptista Parreira. All six delegation members are visiting the ROC for the first time. (E)
