Rector Dede Rosyada of Indonesia’s Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in Indonesia is leading a seven-member delegation to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from November 20 to 25, 2016, at the invitation of the ROC government.

The delegation has called at the Ministry of Education, National Chiao Tung University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Dong Hwa University and Tzu Chi University, thereby enhancing bilateral cooperation in education. Also, to deepen the delegation’s understanding of Taiwan and foster academic exchanges, the ROC Tourism Bureau has arranged for the members to visit local Islamic sights.

Through this visit, the ROC government seeks to advance Islamic and cultural exchanges with Indonesia, which is one of the important pillars of the New Southbound Policy. The delegation exchanged views with relevant agencies on encouraging more outstanding students to study in Taiwan and enhancing the understanding of Islamic culture, thus strengthening bilateral exchanges.

Taiwan and Indonesia enjoy close relations, especially as 300,000 Indonesian workers, spouses, and students currently reside in Taiwan. Taiwan is Indonesia’s ninth largest trading partner and 10th largest foreign investor, while Indonesia is Taiwan’s 12th largest trading partner. In the future, the two sides will continue to promote cooperation in such areas as economy, education, agriculture, and labor. (E)
