Delegation led by Miluše Horská, first vice-chairperson of Czech Senate, visits Taiwan

An eight-member delegation led by Miluše Horská, first vice-chairperson of the Senate of the Czech Republic, will visit Taiwan from May 22 to 27 at the invitation of the Republic of China government.

The purpose of the visit is to promote parliamentary exchanges and to provide delegation members with a better understanding of recent developments in Taiwan’s political, economic, cultural and social spheres, thereby facilitating substantial bilateral cooperation and exchange.

While in Taiwan, the delegation will meet with Vice President Chen Chien-jen and Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan, and in addition to attending a reception hosted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chih-Chung Wu, the delegation will call at the Executive Yuan’s Gender Equality Committee, the Environmental Protection Administration, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s National Health Insurance Administration, the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, the Straits Exchange Foundation, the Institute for Information Industry, and Hsinchu Science Park. Furthermore, the delegation will also visit a number of other sites of economic and cultural interest, including the National Palace Museum, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and Taipei 101.

Taiwan and the Czech Republic share the common values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, and have signed agreements and memoranda of understanding in such areas as working holidays, education, intellectual property rights, telecommunications, nuclear power and e-government, laying the foundation for further bilateral cooperation. To date, a number of Taiwanese ICT enterprises have invested in the Czech Republic, creating more than 23,000 job opportunities. To create a win-win situation for both countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to promote substantial bilateral cooperation and exchange in such areas as trade and economics, culture and education, and science and technology.

In addition to First Vice-chairperson Horská, other senators in the delegation are Peter Koliba, chair of the Senate’s Committee on Health and Social Policy; Zbyněk Linhart and Jiří Carbol, chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Committee on territorial Development, Public Administration, and Environment; and Božena Sekaninová, chair of the Standing Senate Commission on Senate Chancellery Activities.
