The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly protests the Kenyan police’s deportation of 23 ROC citizens to mainland China contrary to a Kenyan local court verdict and high court injunction under the pretext of Kenya’s one-China principle. Kenyan police also disregarded the wishes of 22 ROC citizens arrested on April 8 in another case and deported them to mainland China. MOFA demands an explanation from the government of Kenya.

On April 5, a Kenyan local court acquitted 23 ROC citizens in a case, ruling that they were to be released and mandating that they leave the country by a specific date. Instead, they were taken to Nairobi, the nation’s capital, by Kenyan police, illegally detained at a Kilimani local police station for more than 24 hours, and forcefully deported to mainland China as the police ignored an injunction issued by the Kenyan high court. These actions, and the deportation of the second group, have seriously violated the rights and interests of ROC citizens. (E)
