ROC government congratulates US President-elect Donald Trump

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hereby extends its warmest congratulations to both President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Pence on winning the 58th presidential election of the United States. The ballot-counting started from the East Coast on November 8, 2016. According to the polling results released on November 9 at 4 pm, the Republican Party's presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Mike Pence have reached the threshold of 270 electoral votes needed to become the 45th president and vice president of the United States.
 
Upon learning the election results, President Tsai Ing-wen immediately sent a letter of congratulations to President-elect Trump. President Tsai also stated that under his leadership, relations between the ROC (Taiwan) and the US are certain to grow even stronger in the years to come.

Taiwan and the United States not only share in common such values as democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights, but also enjoy close political, economic, security, and cultural ties. The ROC government looks forward to working with the next US administration to further deepen bilateral relations and promote peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.(E)
