Taiwan’s private sector donates humanitarian relief materials to Haiti

Following the earthquake in Haiti, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), has received numerous monetary contributions and relief materials from the private sector.

The first batch of humanitarian relief aid was donated by the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China, Dharma Drum Mountain Foundation, Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation, Ling Jou Mountain Buddhist Society, among others. The donations included 84 tons of emergency medical supplies, food, potable water, clothing, tents, simple lighting equipment, nearly NT$12 million in value.

To expedite the delivery of donations to the people of Haiti, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged a FedEx cargo flight transporting 70 tons of relief materials to take off at 8:30 p.m. on January 18 with donation to the our Embassy to the Dominican Republic. The relief materials are expected to arrive on the evening of January 20, and further transferred to Haitian disaster areas. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier C.S. Hou hosted a donation ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on January 18.
Based on spirit of compassion and solidarity to assist, Taiwanese NGOs have collected a great amount of humanitarian relief materials for the victims of the earthquake. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has maintained close contact and cooperated intensively with civil organizations in order to provide assistance to this diplomatic ally in the most efficient manner possible.
