Responding to calls by President Leonel Fernández Reyna of the Dominican Republic for aiding Haiti, President Ma will discuss with the government of the Dominican Republic issues related to Haiti post-disaster reconstruction and people rehabilitation. President Ma’s charter flight will carry humanitarian relief supplies. During his stay in Santo Domingo, President Ma will also contact Taiwan’s Ambassador to Haiti Hsu Mien-sheng and Consul Chi Wang-der, hospitalized in the Dominican Republic, as well as family members of the Embassy and displaced overseas compatriots. President Ma is scheduled to depart on January 25 and return on January 30, making stopovers in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Key members of President Ma’s delegation include Deputy Legislative Speaker Tseng Yung-Chuan, two other legislators, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Council of Agriculture and the Overseas Compatriots Affairs Commission, as well as Dr. C.V. Chen, President of the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan). |
