Gambian Minister leads delegation to the Republic of China (Taiwan)
At the invitation of the government of the Republic of China(Taiwan), H.E. Ousman Jammeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of The Gambia, will lead a three-member delegation to visit Taiwan from March 6 to March 10, 2010. The other delegates are Madame Haddy Sey Jammeh, and Hon. Maudo Touray, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.
In order to exchange views on issues of mutual concern and strengthen bilateral relations, the delegation will have an audience with President Ma Ying-jeou, and call on Dr. Charng Kao, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, as well as Ambassador Wen-lung Tao, Secretary-General of the International Cooperation and Development Foundation (TaiwanICDF). H.E. Timothy Chin-tien Yang, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will also be hosting a luncheon in honor of the delegation. Their trip is rounded off with visits to the National Taipei University of Technology, for discussions with Gambian students, as well as to Sun Moon Lake, the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village and Shilin Night Market.
Since the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of The Gambia re-established diplomatic ties in 1995, relations have remained firm and continue to go from strength to strength. The two countries have successfully undertaken various cooperation projects in the areas of agriculture, education, infrastructure construction, medicine and public health. The Gambia has staunchly supported Taiwan in its quest to participate meaningfully in the United Nations, the World Health Organization and other international organizations.(E)
