Dr. Arlindo Vicente de Assunção Carvalho, Minister of Health for the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, is to visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the government, Dr. Arlindo Vicente de Assunção Carvalho, Minister of Health for the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, and Counselor Camélia Neto de Barros of that country’s Ministry of Health, are to arrive in Taiwan on April 9, 2007. During their visit, they will meet with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yang Tzu-pao and Minister of Health, Hou Sheng-mou. They will also stop at the Center for Disease Control, which has been providing assistance with Sao Tome and Principe’s plan for malaria control, to exchange opinions. They will go on to visit additional medical institutions such as the National Defense Medical Center and Tri-Service General Hospital, as well as other institutions such as Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF). Their itinerary is rounded off with visits to places of cultural and economic significance such as the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101, before their scheduled departure on April 12. Minister Arlindo Carvalho, 45, has served in several key positions, including Director of Health for the North Region and Delegate of Health for Água Grande District. He was promoted to the position of Minister of Health by President Fradique de Menezes last April. Counselor Camélia Neto de Barros previously served as Director of the National Health Education Center and as a consultant for UNICEF on the situation of women and children in Sao Tome.(E)
