To our friends from the Philippines, welcome to Taiwan!
本人很榮幸代表本部林部長出席今日臺灣港務公司十四週年慶典，並共同見證高雄港與蘇比克灣港締結姊妹港，以及台電承租台中港至通霄電廠海底輸氣管線之簽約儀式。
今日活動不僅彰顯臺灣港務公司十四年來穩健發展與持續精進的成果，更展現港口建設與國家關鍵能源設施相互支撐、協同推進的整體布局。同時，透過與國際港口深化合作，進一步強化我國在區域供應鏈與海運網絡中的戰略連結。可以說，這是跨部會資源整合、產業與能源政策協同推動的典範，也具體呈現我國在強化經濟韌性與國際合作上的長遠布局。
在我擔任駐法大使期間，多次接受國際媒體專訪並與各國政要會晤，深刻感受到國際社會對台海和平穩定的高度關切。這種重視，不僅源自台灣在全球科技供應鏈中的關鍵地位，更因為台灣同時是國際海運與全球貿易的重要節點。台灣海峽作為全球最繁忙的航道之一，承載超過全球五分之一的海運貿易量，能夠造就此一成就，除了得天獨厚的地理位置，更仰賴台灣長期累積的港務管理能力、智慧化港口建設，以及航運產業的專業實力與國際布局。
Now, allow me to extend a warm welcome to our friends from the Philippines. I understand that several of you visited Taiwan last year during the Taiwan–Philippines Smart Port Forum, and it is truly a pleasure to reconnect on this meaningful occasion.
Taiwan and the Philippines are like-minded democratic partners located along the strategically vital First Island Chain. We share not only geographic proximity, but also a deep Austronesian maritime heritage that connects our peoples across generations. In recent years, our bilateral ties have continued to deepen, including Taiwan’s active promotion of the Taiwan–Philippines Economic Corridor, in alignment with the U.S.–Japan–Philippines Luzon Economic Corridor initiative.
The signing of today’s Sister Port Agreement between the Port of Subic Bay and the Port of Kaohsiung marks an important milestone in our port cooperation and reflects the growing strength of Taiwan–Philippines relations.
As this year also marks the 50th anniversary of MECO’s presence in Taiwan, today’s occasion carries added significance. It symbolizes our shared commitment to deeper partnership, regional stability, and sustainable prosperity for generations to come.
