Director-General Vincent Yao of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle attended the Tacoma Moon Festival at the Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park on September 15.
Organized by Tacoma’s Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation, the annual Tacoma Moon Festival aims to promote understanding about the culture and background of the Moon Festival, and raise Tacomans’ awareness of cultural diversity.
As part of the festival, the Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation organized a number of traditional opera and dance performances, inviting the Seattle Chinese Opera Club and indigenous students from the local community to perform. Gracing the stage were examples of Cambodian classical folk dance and Chinese lion dancing, while the audience cheered when Chang’e, the Chinese goddess of the moon, appeared during the event’s final segment.
The festival also hosted a number of Chinese food stands, as well as exhibitions of calligraphy, handicrafts, and the traditional tea ceremony.
