On behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaoshieh Joseph Wu conferred the Order of Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon upon Representative Martin Eberts of the German Institute Taipei July 3 to honor his contributions to promoting bilateral relations.

Since assuming his post in Taipei nearly four years ago, Representative Eberts has advanced bilateral cooperation and exchanges in a wide range of areas, including economic and trade relations, education, youth working holidays, science and technology, energy transition, and carbon emissions trading. He also assisted in mustering German support of Taiwan’s international participation, with his country speaking up for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the World Health Assembly this year and last.

Representative Eberts boasts a rich and distinguished diplomatic career, having served in Brazil, Japan, France, and Saudi Arabia. He assumed his current post in Taiwan in August 2014, and will be departing later this month. (E)
