Bernt Berger, Senior Fellow in charge of the Asia Program at the German Council on Foreign Relations, is leading a five-member delegation of researchers to Taiwan from May 7 to 11.

The delegation members will call at the Ministry of Defense, Mainland Affairs Council, and Bureau of Energy. They will also visit such think tanks as the European Union Centre in Taiwan, the Prospect Foundation, and National Chengchi University’s Institute of International Relations, as well as the headquarters of major political parties. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a luncheon in their honor. Visits to such cultural and economic sites of interest as Taroko National Park in Hualien and Taipei 101 have also been arranged for the delegation.

This trip aims to update these German researchers on the evolving Asia-Pacific landscape, cross-strait relations, as well as Taiwan’s recent political and economic developments.

Other members of the delegation include Sarah Kirchberger, Head of the Center for Asia-Pacific Strategy and Security Policy at Kiel University; Angela Stanzel, Senior Fellow and Editor of China Analysis at the Berlin Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations; and Janka Oertel, Transatlantic Fellow in the Asia Program of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.(E)
