The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the European Parliament resolution adopted on December 12 in response to the Annual Report on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, submitted by the Council of the European Union at a plenary session in Strasbourg, France. The resolution emphasizes that strengthening security in the Indo-Pacific region is of critical importance to the interests of the European Union and its member states. The resolution also encourages a quick resumption of bilateral talks between China and Taiwan, calls for all parties concerned in the region, including in the East and South China Seas, to solve differences through peaceful means, and reiterates its support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its appreciation to the European Parliament for its friendship and support toward Taiwan.

The resolution drafted by the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs aims at providing comprehensive policy recommendations and was adopted with wide cross-political group support. It stresses the need for better coordinating the EU’s common foreign and security policies, especially in response to the economic and security repercussions caused by the rise of China and Russia. It also calls for the EU to pursue multilateralism in the international community and enhance its role in global governance.

As an important member of the Indo-Pacific region, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is committed to working closely with other nations in the region to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and to making proactive and positive contributions to regional security. While steadily deepening its collaboration with the EU and other like-minded partners, Taiwan hopes to receive greater substantive support and cooperation from the international community in preserving peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific  region.(E)
