In order to encourage young Canadians to experience living in Taiwan and promote youth exchange between Taiwan and Canada, young Canadians may now apply for a working holiday visa after arriving in Taiwan.
Beginning January 1, Canadian citizens already in Taiwan who are between 18 and 35 years of age and have not previously held a youth mobility/working holiday visa from the Republic of China (Taiwan) may now apply for such a visa, valid for one year, at the headquarters of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) in Taipei or the regional offices in Taichung, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Hualien. In addition, starting December 31, 2018, Taiwan nationals applying for a working holiday visa must have their fingerprints and photographs taken, but this may be completed at any Canada Visa Application Center in the world. To apply for a work permit, study permit, visitor visa, or permanent residency, Taiwan nationals must still submit such biometric data in person at the Canada Visa Application Center in Taipei (address: 7F Unit A, No. 97 Songren Road, Exchange Square 2, Xinyi District).
Taiwan and Canada signed an MOU on bilateral youth exchanges in 2010 to facilitate interaction between young people from the two countries. This program offers the participants the opportunity to gain insights first-hand into the culture of the host country and make new friendships. Taiwan and Canada anticipate that the simplified visa application measures will further boost bilateral youth exchanges. (E)
