Two Members of the Scottish Parliament, Rhoda Grant and Alison Harris, are visiting Taiwan from October 8 to 12 at the invitation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomes their visit.

During their visit, Ms. Grant and Ms. Harris aim to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s recent political, economic and social developments. Their visit will enhance bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Scotland in such areas as economics, trade, tourism, culture and education.

The Members of the Scottish Parliament will attend ROC (Taiwan) National Day celebrations and related activities on October 10, and call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Ministry of Health and Welfare. In addition, they will also call on the Mainland Affairs Council, British Office Taipei, and Scottish Development International’s Taiwan office. The delegates will also visit the National Palace Museum and indigenous communities in eastern Taiwan’s Hualien County.

The Taipei Representative Office in the U.K., Edinburgh Office maintains close contacts with both the government and private sector in Scotland. It also promotes bilateral exchanges in various areas. Taiwan is presently the world’s fourth-largest export market for Scotch whisky. Edinburgh is a major international hub for culture and the arts events. The Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, among other world-renowned events, have hosted many of Taiwan’s performing arts groups. Bilateral interactions in terms of economics and trade, as well as cultural exchanges, are vibrant between Taiwan and Scotland.(E)
