The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) strongly condemns the North Korean authorities for blatantly conducting their sixth nuclear test, thereby further undermining regional peace and security.

The ROC has consistently called for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the peaceful resolution of issues involving the Korean Peninsula through dialogue. The ROC solemnly urges North Korea to immediately cease all actions that could jeopardize regional security and partake in concerted efforts to maintain peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in East Asia.

North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test at Punggye-ri in Kilju County, North Hamgyong Province, at 12:39 PM local time (11:29 AM Taipei time) on September 3, 2017. Immediately afterwards, the Korean Central News Agency announced the successful testing of a hydrogen bomb that could be launched using an intercontinental ballistic missile.(E)
