Dr. Cyril Svoboda, former Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, visits Taiwan

Dr. Cyril Svoboda, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, is visiting Taiwan from June 13 to 17, at the invitation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government. He has served as a legal consultant to the Czech Prime Minister since 2017

During this visit, his first to Taiwan, he will call at the Mainland Affairs Council and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host a luncheon in his honor. Dr. Svoboda will also speak at National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, and Soochow University on his country’s foreign policy and Europe’s current political and economic landscape. Excursions to other sites of economic and cultural interest, including the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101, have been arranged on his behalf as well.

Dr. Svoboda is a senior diplomat with extensive experience in government affairs. After leaving public service, he founded the Diplomatic Academy, and frequently lectures overseas. Through this trip, he aims to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s democratic developments and strengthen academic exchanges between the Czech Republic and Taiwan.

Taiwan and the Czech Republic have long enjoyed a close friendship based on the core values of freedom, democracy and human rights. Exchanges in such areas as trade, culture, education, and science and technology have grown stronger each year. Looking ahead, the two countries will continue to promote exchange and cooperation based on their existing solid foundation.(E)
