A delegation of representatives from five British cities is here in Taiwan to take part in the second UK-Taiwan Smart City Forum March 28, together with the 2018 Smart City Summit & Expo at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from March 27 to 30.
The forum, jointly organized by the Taipei Representative Office in the UK and the British Office Taipei, sees experts from both countries gathering to exchange views themed on autonomous vehicles so as to facilitate the development of smart transportation.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chih-Chung Wu welcomed the British delegation attending this year’s forum comprising representatives of Milton Keynes, West Lothian, Peterborough, Bristol, and Greenwich. During their visit, the members of the delegation will also call on Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je, and attend the Smart City Mayor’s Summit and the prelaunch of the Global Organization of Smart Cities (Go Smart), as well as participate in associated nighttime activities organized by Taipei City government.
The UK is Taiwan’s third-largest trade partner in Europe, while Taiwan is the UK’s 11th-largest trade partner in Asia, with bilateral trade reaching US$5.75 billion during 2017. Enjoying close exchanges in science and technology, the two countries will continue to promote cooperation in science and innovation in accordance with the government’s 5+2 Innovative Industries program, developing business opportunities and deepening their mutually beneficial bilateral relationship.
