Mark Garnier, MP, former Minister of State for International Trade, is leading a seven-member delegation comprising members of both the House of Lords and House of Commons of the UK Parliament to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from September 30 to October 6. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomes the delegation.

Accompanying Mr. Garnier are Lord Collins of Highbury, Baroness Falkner of Margravine, and Baroness Bloomfield of Hinton Waldrist, as well as MPs Kate Hollern, Philip Hollobone, and Stephen Morgan. The delegation’s cross-party composition is an indication of the UK Parliament’s bipartisan friendship toward Taiwan.

In addition to promoting bilateral interparliamentary exchange, the purpose of the delegation’s visit is to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s overall political and economic developments, its foreign and cross-strait relations, and issues concerning Taiwan’s defense and national security, as well as economic and trade cooperation between Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

The delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, and call at the Legislative Yuan, the National Security Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Financial Supervisory Commission, and the British Office, Taipei. The delegation will also visit such sites of economic and cultural interest as the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101.

Legislative Yuan President Su Jia-chyuan received a warm welcome from both Houses of the UK Parliament when he visited the country in July. The visit of Mr. Garnier and the members of the delegation will further strengthen the Taiwan-UK friendship and enhance bilateral parliamentary exchanges.(E)
