A five-member parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker Adam Bielan of the Senate of the Republic of Poland is visiting Taiwan from November 18 to 23, at the invitation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government.
The purpose of the visit for the delegation is to gain a better understanding of Taiwan’s most recent political, economic, and social developments, and to advance bilateral cooperation and exchange through interparliamentary dialogue and interaction.
During their stay in Taiwan, the members of the delegation will call on Vice President Chen Chien-jen, and call at the Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Council of Agriculture, Central Taiwan Science Park, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the International Cooperation and Development Fund, as well as attend a luncheon hosted in their honor by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation will also visit other sites of cultural and economic interest, including National Palace Museum.
Taiwan and Poland enjoy cordial and close relations, and in recent years have signed numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding covering such areas as cultural and educational exchange, air transport, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, mutual recognition of driver’s licenses, avoidance of double taxation, and the establishment of agricultural consultation mechanisms. The delegation’s visit will further enhance the two countries’ mutually beneficial cooperative relationship.
In addition to Deputy Speaker Bielan, the delegation also includes Senators Waldemar Sługocki, Robert Dowhan, and Arkadiusz Grabowski; and Wojciech Kasprowski, the deputy speaker’s adviser. Senator Dowhan is the only member of the delegation to have previously visited Taiwan. (E)
