Over 60 mayors, politicians, and experts from 10 European countries—Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom—will be participating in the Smart City Summit & Expo （SCSE） in Taipei from March 26 to 28, in order to deepen their understanding of Taiwan’s smart city development and associated experience.
The European guests include Dr. Mike Short, Chief Scientific Adviser at the UK’s Department for International Trade; Tim Bowles, Mayor of the West of England, United Kingdom; Peter Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes Council, United Kingdom; Cammy Day, Deputy Leader of the City of Edinburgh Council; Zdeněk Hřib, Mayor of Prague, Czech Republic; Jiří Behounek, Governor of the Vysocina Region, Czech Republic; Josef Knot, Vice Governor of the South Bohemian Region, Czech Republic; Klaas Verschuure, Vice-Mayor of Utrecht, Netherlands; and Artur Szymczyk, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin, Poland. Local politicians and experts from Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, and the Middle East will also be attending the SCSE.
The European delegates will be seeking to gain deeper insight into Taiwan’s scientific and technological developments in such areas as e-health, intelligent transport systems, and smart energy, as well as meet with related Taiwanese government officials and experts. Their visit highlights the close exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Europe in high tech, urban management, and the humanities, among other fields.
MOFA will continue to promote even stronger cooperation with Europe in terms of smart cities and the development of the digital economy, echoing the use of science and technology to advance sustainable city development and encouraging economic and industrial innovation. This will support the EU-Asia Connectivity Strategy and further strengthen bilateral partnerships.（E）
