The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is releasing a short video on the eve of World Refugee Day 2020 entitled “Taiwan Story—Together Stronger” to share Taiwan’s commitment to international humanitarian assistance, highlight the dedicated participation of its public and private sectors, and thank the private sector for its involvement and efforts.

MOFA has long cooperated with Taiwanese private sector groups, like-minded countries, and international nongovernmental organizations to improve the lives of refugees in countries such as Jordan, Turkey, and Iraq, donating prefabricated homes, medical supplies, lighting equipment, and other resources; offering psychological counseling, vocational training for women, and IT education; and promoting the use of renewable energy.

For many years, our government and NGOs have extended humanitarian assistance to countries around the world. In 2019 alone, Taiwan conducted over 450 development and assistance projects in more than 60 countries. Charitable endeavors aimed at helping refugees in the Middle East have been a key priority. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread across the globe and continues to intensify in the Middle East, the government donated surgical masks to Jordan and Turkey in May this year, helping medical personnel working in camps and communities housing Syrian refugees combat the disease. Taiwan will continue to take concrete measures to contribute to international humanitarian assistance, fulfill its international obligations, and show that it can help and is helping.

By releasing the short video, MOFA seeks to enhance the international community’s understanding of Taiwan’s role and concrete contributions in the field of humanitarian assistance. Readers are welcome to view the video on MOFA’s social media channels (see links below) and share it widely with others. (E)
