MOFA congratulates President-elect Prabowo and Vice President-elect Gibran of Indonesia

According to the official vote tally of the February 14 presidential election announced by the Indonesian General Elections Commission on March 20, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto was elected president of Indonesia and Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka of Surakarta, Central Java Province, was elected vice president. President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te have extended congratulations to President-elect Prabowo and Vice President-elect Gibran and commended the people and government of Indonesia for the peaceful completion of their democratic election.

Taiwan and Indonesia are Indo-Pacific countries that share the values of freedom and democracy and together face such challenges as climate change, food security, and supply chain resilience. Taiwan looks forward to building on existing cordial bilateral interactions between the two countries to further deepen cooperation on the economy, investment, cultural exchanges, health care, technology, education, agriculture, labor, and other domains and to jointly maintain a free, open, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
