The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina recently passed four friendly resolutions expressing condolences on the Hualien earthquake. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) welcomes these resolutions and expresses its sincere appreciation.

The resolutions, which received cross-party support, were proposed by Julio Cobos, Second Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies; Fernando Iglesias, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Ricardo López Murphy, Chair of the Defense Committee; and Deputy Marilú Quiroz. The resolutions express the Argentine Chamber of Deputies’ concern regarding the strong earthquake that struck Taiwan and wish the people of Taiwan a prompt return to normal life. In the aftermath of the earthquake on April 3, a number of Argentine congresspersons and other prominent political figures expressed their concern and kindness through various means, including letters and text messages.

MOFA extends its profound thanks to friends from Argentina for their heartfelt condolences and concern. Taiwan is willing to continue deepening exchanges with Argentina on the basis of the shared values of democracy and freedom to create a substantive and mutually beneficial cooperative partnership. (E)
