Prime Minister Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia led a delegation to call on Minister Lin Tsung-Hsien of Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture. Prime Minister Chastanet lauded Taiwan’s pioneering role in agricultural development and expressed interest in learning more about Taiwan’s experience and expertise in order to help enhance Saint Lucia’s agricultural sector. He also encouraged Taiwanese enterprises to tap into Saint Lucia’s investment potential and use Saint Lucia as a gateway into the markets of the Americas.
Minister Lin said that the Taiwan International Agricultural Development Company (TIADC), a public-private sector partnership, was created in accordance with President Tsai Ing-wen’s policy directives. The company will help Taiwan’s agricultural sector extend its international outreach and explore overseas markets. In the process, Taiwan will assist in the development of agriculture in Saint Lucia, an important diplomatic ally in the Caribbean, by facilitating Taiwanese investment and technological cooperation via existing mechanisms, such as the TIADC. At Prime Minister Chastanet’s request, Minister Lin also agreed to dispatch a delegation from Taiwan to Saint Lucia in the near future to share experience and explore potential business opportunities.
