Honorable Mary Elizabeth Flores Flake, First Vice President of the National Congress of the Republic of Honduras, to Visit Taiwan

At the invitation of the government of Taiwan, Honorable Mary Elizabeth Flores Flake, First Vice President of the National Congress of the Republic of Honduras, will lead a delegation to Taiwan on January 31 for a five-day visit. During their stay, they will have an audience with Vice President Lu Hsiu-lien, and enjoy two banquets, one hosted by Legislative Yuan Vice President Chung Jung-chi and one by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Chin-shan Ho. In addition, the delegation will pay a visit to the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, United Daily News Group, Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Palace Museum, Taipei World Trade Center, and National Museum of Pottery in Yingge. For the 2005 legislative election in Honduras, Vice President Flores received the highest number of votes in the country. In addition, last year she had the honor of becoming the first vice president of the Honduran national congress. She graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a B.S. in journalism, and became a member of the prestigious American honor society for journalism Kappa Tau Alpha. She also has been employed as a columnist for the Honduran newspaper La Tribuna. Vice President Flores served as secretary general of the department of Youth Development of the Liberal Party in 2000 and has been serving as First Vice President of the National Congress between January 2006 until January 2008.(E)
