針對報載中共「外長」錢其琛批評我拓展外交空間如唐吉訶德鬥風車給自己幻覺一事，本部 胡部長於上（八十六）年十二月卅一日本部年終記者會中答覆美聯社記者詢問時即嚴予駁斥。
胡部長表示：本人認為刻意忽視中華民國的存在，才是所謂的「幻覺」。我們的存在是無可置疑的，任何人意圖忽視中國分治的事實，才是有幻覺的人，需要矯正。
胡部長的英文答覆全文如下：
〞Talking about delusion I know reference was made to Don Quixote, too. I think the only illusion that needs to be mentioned here is the illusion that tries to ignore our existence. We do exist. We are real. And if anyone tries to ignore the fact that there is a divided China, then I think he is the one who has an illusion that needs to be broken and rectified.〞
